Front attachment

The traditional M1 carry sling uses the rifle’s front sling swivel. CMP’s M1907 sling reference shows the conventional arrangement. Identify the sling swivel separately from the stacking swivel; their purposes are different.

Rear attachment

An original-pattern M1 stock has the rear sling swivel under the buttstock. Check that the actual swivel is present and serviceable. Replacement stocks and restored rifles should be assessed by the hardware installed, rather than by the receiver marking alone.

Why this sling on the M1 Garand
Lever-action and traditional rifle stocks can have fitted swivels, bare studs or no sling base. Establish the correct attachments first, then choose a carry setup that remains comfortable while walking and keeps excess strap controlled.

Fitting it
- Clear the rifle. Unload and clear it following the firearm manufacturer’s instructions before fitting any accessories.

Choosing hardware for your configuration
A Garand’s original sling loops are not round push-button QD sockets. Compare the opening and connector clearance before choosing a modern carry sling. A reference photograph does not establish the condition or dimensions of the fittings on an individual surplus rifle.
