Sling for the Steyr AUG — Fitment & Mounts

Sling attachment guidance for the Steyr AUG. Check your exact configuration and both connectors before choosing the McLean Dynamic Retention Sling (DRS). Factory attachment points do not by themselves confirm a direct fit.

Front attachment

Manual-specific front swivel or QD fitting — factory attachment point.

Steyr’s AUG semi-automatic manual illustrates standard swivel and QD arrangements. Match your rifle to the relevant diagram rather than treating the two interfaces as interchangeable. An ordinary sling loop does not accept a push-button swivel directly.

Factory attachment point: a QD cup needs a matching swivel; a socket provision may also need a separate cup. Confirm what is installed and what the hardware includes.

Rear attachment

Corresponding rear swivel arrangement — factory attachment point.

Use the rear fitting specified for your AUG configuration. Confirm whether you have a supplied loop or a socket needing the correct QD swivel before selecting the sling’s rear connection.

Factory attachment point: confirm the connector fits and closes fully on the exact attachment. The existence of a loop does not establish McLean connector clearance.

Why this sling on the Steyr AUG

Bullpup stocks place the action and magazine toward the rear. Check the strap route around that layout and use the documented attachment points to support comfortable, controlled carry.

The McLean design is a two-point sling with a patented retention system: it cinches tight to hold the bullpup against your body hands-free, then releases into a ready position in one pull. It ships in one size and adjusts, so there is no length to choose.

Fitting it

  1. Clear the bullpup. Unload and clear it following the firearm manufacturer’s instructions before fitting any accessories.
  2. Front: confirm a compatible connector and follow the sling and attachment manufacturer instructions.
  3. Rear: confirm the matching connector for your stock or rear attachment; do not assume a slot, stud and QD cup are interchangeable.
  4. Adjust wearing your kit. A setting dialled in without a vest comes up short once it is on.
  5. Check the transition. It should shoulder without pulling tight across your chest.

Choosing hardware for your configuration

Steyr’s 2024 catalog describes newer A3 MII equipment, including QD and M-LOK provisions. Those features should not be retroactively assumed on an older AUG stock or fore-end.

Because the attachment spacing and stock layout differ from a conventional rifle, check strap clearance around the magazine and controls. Select hardware from the actual fitting diagrams instead of transferring an AR-style shopping list to the AUG.

Questions

Does the McLean Dynamic Retention Sling (DRS) fit the Steyr AUG?

Compatibility depends on the exact configuration and connectors. Confirm both attachment points and the connector fit before ordering. A factory attachment point does not by itself confirm a direct fit for the McLean sling.

Do I need a snap hook for the front of my Steyr AUG?

The McLean sling already carries a front hook. Choose a compatible attachment loop or swivel for that hook, and confirm its clearance and closure on your exact setup before buying additional hardware.

What do I need to buy for the Steyr AUG?

Front: Factory attachment point: a QD cup needs a matching swivel; a socket provision may also need a separate cup. Confirm what is installed and what the hardware includes. Rear: Factory attachment point: confirm the connector fits and closes fully on the exact attachment. The existence of a loop does not establish McLean connector clearance.

What length sling do I need for the Steyr AUG?

There is no length to choose. The sling ships in one size and adjusts, so the same sling covers carry and cinched retention. Set it wearing the kit you actually carry in — a setting dialled in without a vest or heavy coat comes up short once it is on.
