Sling for the Marlin Model 60 — Fitment & Mounts

Sling attachment guidance for the Marlin Model 60. Check your exact configuration and both connectors before choosing the McLean Dynamic Retention Sling (DRS). Factory attachment points do not by themselves confirm a direct fit.

Front attachment

Swivel stud on stud-equipped variants only — not confirmed for every configuration.

Marlin’s own feature list for the standard walnut-finished hardwood Model 60 does not mention swivel studs. Marlin did list swivel studs on the synthetic-stocked 60SN and nickel-plated swivel studs on the laminated 60SS. Check the forend of the actual rifle for a factory stud before buying swivels.

Attachment details are not confirmed for every configuration. Check the exact model and manufacturer documentation before buying hardware.

Rear attachment

Buttstock swivel stud on stud-equipped variants only — not confirmed for every configuration.

The same split applies at the rear. Marlin’s 60SN and 60SS listings include swivel studs, and the standard Model 60 listing does not. Inspect the underside of the buttstock for a stud on the rifle you own.

Attachment details are not confirmed for every configuration. Check the exact model and manufacturer documentation before buying hardware.

Why this sling on the Marlin Model 60

A rimfire spends its life being carried around a property, a range or a trapline. It is light enough that people put up with a bad sling — but the same cinch-and-release that suits a duty rifle just makes it easier to keep both hands free.

The McLean design is a two-point sling with a patented retention system: it cinches tight to hold the rifle against your body hands-free, then releases into a ready position in one pull. It ships in one size and adjusts, so there is no length to choose.

Fitting it

  1. Clear the rifle. Unload and clear it following the firearm manufacturer’s instructions before fitting any accessories.
  2. Front: confirm a compatible connector and follow the sling and attachment manufacturer instructions.
  3. Rear: confirm the matching connector for your stock or rear attachment; do not assume a slot, stud and QD cup are interchangeable.
  4. Adjust wearing your kit. A setting dialled in without a vest comes up short once it is on.
  5. Check the transition. It should shoulder without pulling tight across your chest.

Choosing hardware for your configuration

The Model 60 was made for decades under the Marlin and Glenfield names, and the model is no longer listed by the current Ruger-owned Marlin. The cited pages are Marlin’s own archived 2017 listings. They show that sling provisions depended on the variant, so the model name alone does not settle it.

A standard Model 60 with no studs has no factory sling attachment in Marlin’s listing. Adding studs to a stock is a gunsmithing job and is outside this guide. Where studs are present, they need stud-mount swivels, since a stud is not a QD cup.

Questions

Does the McLean Dynamic Retention Sling (DRS) fit the Marlin Model 60?

Compatibility depends on the exact configuration and connectors. Confirm both attachment points and the connector fit before ordering. A factory attachment point does not by itself confirm a direct fit for the McLean sling.

Do I need a snap hook for the front of my Marlin Model 60?

The McLean sling already carries a front hook. Choose a compatible attachment loop or swivel for that hook, and confirm its clearance and closure on your exact setup before buying additional hardware.

What do I need to buy for the Marlin Model 60?

Front: Attachment details are not confirmed for every configuration. Check the exact model and manufacturer documentation before buying hardware. Rear: Attachment details are not confirmed for every configuration. Check the exact model and manufacturer documentation before buying hardware.

What length sling do I need for the Marlin Model 60?

There is no length to choose. The sling ships in one size and adjusts, so the same sling covers carry and cinched retention. Set it wearing the kit you actually carry in — a setting dialled in without a vest or heavy coat comes up short once it is on.
